TASK 3: TACCLE

INTRO

This week the task has been to explain an activity that we have chosen to the rest of the class. The activity was TODAY´S REPORTER. The activity can be carried out throughout all of primary school, but we believe that it is more appropriate to develop it from second to fourth grade, where they are old enough to start using a camera correctly and with responsibility. They are curious and want to learn and some of them can discover something that they are keen on by doing this activity.

Moreover, in the curriculum, as we can see in here, 2.2. Takes photographs using technological methods, the standards that encompass this task are only present in these courses. (In the first, fifth and sixth grades there is also a use of technology but the content does not include taking pictures by themselves, but other types of activities).

According to the levels of the Bloom Taxonomy, by doing this activity, children should achieve the following:

Firstly, Create, since they are going to design an original presentation where they will include the photos they have taken during a day.  Secondly, Apply, due to the fact that they have to interpret the information using information or a skill in a new situation. The teacher will teach the students to use a camera before they can start taking photos. Next, Understand and explain ideas or concepts about the work and the previous explanation and process the information by themselves. Lastly, remember, they have to recall basic concepts and the work they have done in class and the steps they have done so they can talk about their experience in class.

Arts is the ideal subject to carry out this activity, because the students, with their imagination and creativity, will take photos of their friends during the day. They will start learning how to use a camera and they can try different perspectives or angles to work on their creativity.

It can also be adapted to the English subject by making them say some phrases in English such as: “say cheese!” if you are the photographer and “Can you take a picture of us?” if you want the photographer to take a photo.

The technology that can be used for this task are mobile phones or cameras to take pictures, and later, for putting them all together mixed with the information to explain, we used our computers.  The technique this technology is focused on is storytelling due to how we are telling our routine of a normal day that we usually have. With this activity we introduce power points to the children and show them how it works before beginning the task. This way, they can use what they learnt to expose their presentation.

We have used Pecha Kucha for the presentation:

ROLES:

FACILITATOR: Rosalía

This week´s organisation was a little bit hard because of the format of the presentation. We first started talking the 6 of us about how the Pecha Kucha could be done, but when it came to create the slides and divide the oral content in 20 seconds each, it resulted extremely messy. So, we opted for divide the work this way: both stars had to create their slides and organise between them the text that the rest of us would write for them to use it during the presentation.

TRANSLATOR: Lucía

The key terms we consider essential for this task (about today´s reporter) are:

Reporter: In this case, the reporter is a child every day, and it consists of taking photos of his classmates and then giving them to the teacher so that he can put them in a presentation. Learners find it really hilarious to see themselves at work and play... and it doesn’t matter if some of the photos are blurry or badly taken, they seem to think this is even more entertaining.

Digital tools: They are the different technological devices that have been used to take the photos or to make the presentation. They are intended to facilitate the tasks of everyday life and especially in the classroom.

Presentation: In this task, the presentation is made by the teacher, where he exposes the photos taken by the reporter. The presentation also serves to reflect the work of the students and they can be evaluated.

Photographer: The photographer, in this case, acts by taking pictures of the students with a camera or a mobile.

Chronological awareness: Students are able to project the photos as time goes by. Thanks to this they will know everything they have been doing day by day and that will also help their parents to be informed of their routine at school.

JOURNALIST, Marta:

To develop this activity, we first decided what activity we liked the most, we finally choosed Today´s reporte, here are some photos while doing the task:

Here we are choosing the best activity to carry  out and argue the different ideas that we can use to spice up our work.

Then, here you can se one of the two stars of this week, Lura, getting ready to make her best!

Our stars in accion! Here you can see Laura and Rileigh. They finally presented the task in the best way.

CURATOR: Lucía

Hello! I am Lucía and this week I am the curator. My role is to dynamically collect and organize all the pages we've used to get the job done.

ANALYST: Carmen

This task has helped us to put ourselves in a situation and see what it would be like to work with children using digital resources. Which, in our opinion, is something that we should practice to the fullest, so that when the time comes to teach in a classroom, we know how to organize and adapt the activities with digital tools according to the age of our pupils. Since new technologies are very present today, especially in teaching. In fact, in our degree, all the tasks we do need the internet and digital tools.

In addition to gaining new knowledge and practicing to be an effective teacher in the future, we also had fun taking photos posing in different ways and in different settings for our Pecha Kucha presentation (which we also learned how to use because it was something new for us).

However, at the beginning we had a problem with the task since we misunderstood what had to be done. So, understanding and comprehension is something that we must improve as a team because despite having read all the statement, none of us realized that we had started doing it wrong, until one of us did it a day later.

Therefore, we had to modify some things, and this discouraged us a bit but in the end we managed to carry out the project and we regained our motivation. This is something positive that we have in the group, and it is that despite the difficult moments, we always manage to reach our goal by working hard.
