FACILITATOR: Laura

STAR: Carmen

For this task I was in charge of being the spokesperson for the group, so I had to answer a series of reflection questions that Linda put on the board. Together we elaborated a response and when the time was up, I said it out loud.

Finally, according to the last question that said we had to rate the tools, we had to develop an evaluation method: grouping a series of characteristics on the digital tools into categories.

Once that was done, in the next class each group developed the method on the blackboard and in our case, Marta and I wrote the method that is indicated in the following photo:

This week, I think that because this task didn’t involve us creating a presentation of any kind, this activity didn’t have very many weaknesses. I think our group did a great job communicating during the last day of the task, where we all had to talk about our answers and compare them to find a median. For the most part, we were all in agreement, but even when disagreements arose, they were quickly alleviated and we got back on track. I think next week our group should continue with these excellent communication skills, but maybe we could improve on procrastination.

The key terms I have considered essential to this task are as follows:

Evaluate: To form an idea of; assess. This term is important to define for this activity because for this task we were asked to evaluate 9 technologies.

Functionality: The quality of being suited to serve a purpose well; practicality.  This term is important to define because it was listed as one of the categories in our rubric. This section of the rubric was voted as one of the most important sections by the entire class.

Accessibility: The quality of being easy to obtain or use. This term is important to define because it was also listed as one of the categories in our rubric. This section of the rubric was also voted to be one of the most important sections by the class.

Mobile Design: The ability to use the application in different technologies. This term is important to define because, for many people, this is a new concept, and this is a category in the rubric that we would not have considered when evaluating each application.

Social Presence: The degree of salience (the quality or state of being there) between two communicators when using a communication medium.  This term is important to define because for our group, it is one of the most important factors when we use an application. It is necessary that our group is able to communicate well through the application that we have chosen to use.

JOURNALIST: Rosalía

For the first step of the activity of this week, we thought about 9 apps that had helped us for doing the weekly tasks during the course. Then, after reading and filling in a rubric, we were able to evaluate each of the tools and determine what aspects were their strengths or weaknesses when it comes to teaching.

On Wednesday, we completed a survey the teacher gave us related to the previous rubric, and once we finished, in class we discussed the 8 categories presented in the rubric and the order of importance of each one, both from the point of view of a teacher and a student. Ours were these:

In the third place, each group started creating an original method of evaluation to rate the different tools we chose, taking into account the most and least essential aspects of the apps´ design that we had established before. There were only two conditions for its development: the total score of each one should be six stars and it had to be based on the rubric.

Finally, on Friday, everyone drew their own evaluative model on the blackboard and we compared the different ones. The most important lesson that this task offered us was, definitely, appreciating how complicated and delicate it is to carry out a good evaluation method, being at the same time as fair and effective as possible.

ANALYST: Marta

The best thing about this activity was when all the members of the group agreed on everything we said, there were no discussions at all. On the other hand, the worst thing was doing the rubric of each application.

The best moment of the week was when in class we only had to answer the questionnaire, which made the activity much easier.

The worst time doing the work was when we got overwhelmed because we weren't sure about some of the aspects from the rubric.

We have learned how to start exploring some important aspects you must take into account for introducing technologies in the classroom.

We need to conserve our motivation because we are a group that likes working together and we always do the best we can. However, we need to improve our coordination, but we are already working on it. This content is related to the technologies that the teacher has made us use, the technologies that we have discovered and the ones we already knew about, which is really important in our career due to the importance of technologies in education that there is nowadays.
