TASK 9: TEACHING IN A DIGITAL WORLD

ANALYST: Carmen

This pre last task has allowed us not only to analyze the main elements that would constitute the teaching competence in the digital world, but also the most important characteristic of everyone and the relationships with other elements of education/society.

Starting with the generator and manager of emerging educational practices, continuing with the expertise in digital educational content, which is related to TPACK. And talking about TPACK, this was the first task that we carried out in this subject and that, in addition, was also presented with the speed-learning method. Therefore, we have been able to compare and verify how we have improved a lot in all aspects, since now, we have more confidence in ourselves and we perform better when it comes to explaining the information within a time limit.

Third, our stars spoke about the expanding reflective-practice, then about the importance of enhancing organizational or personal learning contexts, which implies taking into account the personal learning environment (PLE). And finally, they finished with topic about the sensivity of the use of technology from the social commitment perspective and the use of technology to expand the teacher's relationship with student’s family and environment.

In order to expose and develop all this information, we had to put a lot of effort and dedication to design the best possible infographic and select the most relevant information. We made the infographic in Canva, since we find it a very useful, fun and easy digital tool, and for this, we selected warm colours, as they represent familiarity, joy, dynamism, vitality... as well as a series of images to make it more visual and attractive. However, when everything seemed to be going well, the night before the presentation (at a very late hour) to one of our stars (who was also in charge of printing the infographics), unfortunately a serious problem arose that prevented her from go to class the next day. For us this was the worst moment as it caused us a lot of stress and worry because we didn't have time to memorize her part and print it. Nevertheless, I was finally able to print the infographic as best I could and Rosi volunteered to play the role of star (reading it   but also explaining it correctly to our classmates) alongside Marta, so that, we were able to save the presentation with good results.

That is why something that we should improve as a group is the fact of having a plan B in case something bad happens and avoiding those moments of anguish and stress. In any case, it's also true that we are very quick when it comes to proposing solutions, and that's something we must preserve.

Finally, while our stars were presenting, Lucía, Rileigh and I had to listen to our classmates' presentations and take notes: our favorites were the ones by Potential teachers and ICT teachers because they explained everything very clearly and pleasantly, and their infographics were very cool.

As for the rest of the groups, everybody did  everything very well too, but we think that something that could be improved is to read as little as possible and point to the infographic at the same time that it is exposed , so as to know at all times the aspect that is being talked about.

JOURNALIST: Lucía

Welcome one more week to our blog, with my role as a journalist I am going to show you how we have carried out this activity. First of all, we shared the work and on Wednesday each one played her role. In the first place, our stars, Marta and Rosi, reviewed the presentation before giving it to our colleagues.

While Linda explained how we were going to get the job done, our stars nervously waited.

Here we can see the work done by the other colleagues. We liked them a lot and they were all very well prepared.

Rileigh, Carmen and Lucía went through each group listening to the presentations of our colleagues and learning new knowledge about the work, because each one did it with different points of view.

Finally, we leave you our work. We tried to keep it simple and everything was clear and orderly. We hope you liked it!

FACILITATOR: Lucía

This week I have been in charge of organizing and distributing the tasks of my group. I have chosen the role that each one played and I have tried to explain her role to each one in case they did not understand something. Also, I have decided, as a leader, to make a video call to better prepare the work and so that we could all contribute ideas from home. This role is very important, because without organization and without understanding the work, the task would be more complicated and the result would be worse.

In my opinion, this task was one of the most challenging tasks we have completed thus far. I think that the main idea of this task can be implemented into all of our future classrooms, because through this activity and this entire course, we have developed many competencies for teaching in a digital world.

The key terms we have considered essential to this task are as follows:

Holistic Teaching Competence: Holistic competency is a term inclusive of different types of generic skills (e.g. critical thinking, communication skills, global competency, information literacy, resilience), positive values (e.g. professional ethics), and attitudes (e.g. lifelong learning) which are essential for students' whole-person. This term was important to define because whether or not we understand this term could make or break our presentation (because it was the main topic of discussion for this task).

Digital World: The digital world defines a time period in which large amounts of information are available to many people though computer technology. This term was important to define because of the name of the task. Without a proper understanding of what a digital world is, we would not be able to create this presentation accurately.

Learning ContextLearning context refers to students' perceptions of the course and the teaching/learning requirements. This term was important to define because it was one of the major points listed as part of our presentation.
Reflective Professional: A reflective professional teacher is a teacher that thinks over their teaching practices, analyzes how something was taught and how the practice might be improved or changed for better learning outcomes. This term was important to define because it was another main point in our presentation. Also, as future teachers, we need to be familiar with this term so that we are able to conduct this in our future classrooms.
Social Commitment: Social commitment is an ethical framework in which an individual is obligated to work and cooperate with other individuals and organizations for the benefit of the community that will inherit the world that individual leaves behind. This term was important to define because it was one of our main points as well. On top of this, it is important to understand this term because in our future classrooms we will need to practice this framework.

STAR: Marta and Rosalía

Hello, we are Marta and Rosalia, we have been the star of this activity. We have enjoyed explaining to our colleagues about the digital world and in particular, in education, we also learned a lot.
